Artist Statement:
I like to paint my response to whatever is beautiful, whether a landscape, still life or human form. I do not paint what represents pain or sorrow, there is more than enough of that without permanently enshrining it to a canvas. Like Jean Chardin & Emil Carlsen, master still life painters, I particularly enjoy painting the still life based on shape, texture and color of common everyday objects including household and oriental items. Usually these geometric shapes are balanced with the more organic shapes of flowers, leaves, fruits and vegetables to create variety and interest. Using a single light source and a neutral background creates a beautiful simplicity to my paintings.
All styles appeal to me, yet traditional classical painting seems to compliment my natural inclination and method of painting. Although I have no formal art education, I have learned by studying the art of masters such as Sargent, Jean Chardin, Emil Carlsen, Sorolla, Wendt, and Bischoff, to name but a few.
